It's not generally known, but Joe was a great fan of Salford Amateur Operatic Society, and used to sneak in the auditorium when the lights had gone down, sitting at the back. Then, at the end of the show before lights-up, he would be on his way out of the theatre. I personally bumped into him when I was working on sound for South Pacific at the Lancastrian Hall in Swinton, Lancs. I just said 'hello' and he replied 'aye, lad' and that was it, all over in about 5 seconds! He was one of the best and I always liked him in Last Of The Summer Wine. May his soul rest in peace.

I have this memory of Joe when he was straight man to a number of famous comedians back in the days of variety, before television took over. Nowhere does this seem to be mentioned in the material I am finding. Anyway,God bless you Joe. You were wonderful.

Family friend

Though I never knew Joe Gladwin, he was a great friend to my father, Edward Christopher Hernon.
Dad spoke of Joe with great delight and warm memories and always enjoyed hearing of his career success.
I made a point of seeing these re-runs of Mr Gladwin's performances and I can see why he was such a success. He seemed such a natural actor in each role.
All the best to his family.

Try to imagine what its like
When i see you all below
I miss you all so much
This you surely know

Try to imagine my pain
When i see those tears you cry
If only you knew the beauty
Of my home up in the sky

Try to imagine the day
When we will all be together
God calls us all back
And we will be apart not ever.
